Okay, so I watched the Hunger Games today, and while the details are still fresh and engraved in my head, I’ll do a review. First things first: I loved the books. I read the whole series. I thought they were basically a mix of every emotion possible.
The story was great, and everything else was flawless. Okay, now to the movie. I loved the movie. It was nearly perfect. They left out a few characters like Madge (Mayor’s Daughter,) the Avox, and most importantly, Greasy Sae.
Those could all be excused, though. The visuals weren’t that great, not that it mattered. The acting. Oh, the acting. It was flawless. When Jennifer Lawrence was trembling right before the games, I got tingles.
When Rue died, I cried. I wished the arrow went through the killer’s neck, and he died a horrible, agonizing, slow death. Caesar Flickerman was marvelous. Snow was not at all how I thought he would be. I thought he’d have a plastic-ish face, a white suit with red trim, and seriously red lips, though his acting was flawless.
Seneca, while he was a bit weak, his wonderful beard made up for it. Thresh was awesome. I was disappointed when the Mutts didn’t have the dead tributes’ eyes. And best of all, Cinna. Lenny Kravitz nailed the look, the actions, and everything in between.
The casters definitely chose the right people for the right roles. I had a few problems, though. I thought Snow would be a creep. I thought the denizens of the Seam would be more Olive-skinned than white. I also thought that Peeta would be a bit smaller in stature.
Jennifer Lawrence made a perfect Katniss. Josh Hutcherson, a perfect Peeta, and Wes Bentley was a great Seneca Crane. I though Haymitch was going to be a bit more rounded, though, and the people from the Capitol weren’t dyed the weird colors.
All in all, it was a great movie. If I had to choose a, “Best Character,” I’m pretty sure Rue won that. I’d probably rate it a 4.5/5, if I were a professional movie critic.
